When you visit the URL http://contacts.live.com, you’re presented with a list of your Windows Live Contacts (assuming you have already been using the service), but you can also add contacts from various social networking sites and other webmail providers.

Included in the list are Google, AOL Mail, Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Hyves, Hi5 and Tagged. You can, of course, also import your Outlook contacts for safe-keeping online and you can even import the contacts associated with a different Windows Live account you have access to.

The end result is one online contacts list available at a single URL which houses all your contacts from around the Internet.

What’s even better is that the Windows Live Service continues to sync data from the other networks into the service, so you’ll always have the latest info available.

And if you want to go one step further, you can add your Windows Live account to your smartphone in order to access your entire contact list from anywhere you go – just add the associated Hotmail account to your device.

<evnet:views>9170</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://on10.net/70408/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>
On the new Windows Live Contacts site (still rolling out now worldwide), you can store all your online contacts in one place – even those not originally in Windows Live! Some users may find they receive all the new features at once while others will see certain features, but not all new features, at least at first.

For example, the US, Canada, the UK and Ireland will be first to get the Office integration features available via the new Office Web Apps service which allows you to create, edit and collaborate using web-based versions of the Microsoft Office software in the cloud. In the new Hotmail, you can open attachments with Office Web Apps, while right in Hotmail.

If you’re not seeing any of the new features just yet, hang on, they’ll arrive soon enough. And everyone will be upgraded by summer’s end, promises the Windows Live team via blog post.

Other features in the new Hotmail, as we’ve mentioned before, include 10 GB attachment limits, inbox clutter reduction tools like the new “Sweep” menu, better spam filters, and “quick views” that show you flagged email, those with photos, those with documents, shipping updates, etc., the ability to email photo slideshows, inline video viewing, improved security, mobile services, and more.

<evnet:views>9402</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://on10.net/70350/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>
The updated version of Windows Live Hotmail is rolling out as of now to customers worldwide. The updates, which are more like improvements to existing Hotmail features, include a new buddy list for when you sign into your web Messenger from within your Hotmail inbox, improvements to help you pick contacts for your messages, auto-save for your email drafts, and the ability to download all files in a message as a zip file (instead of one by one). The features are being rolled out now and over the coming weeks, the team will blog in more detail about how you can use these new features yourself. Stay tuned!

<evnet:views>11845</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://on10.net/54288/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>According to the Windows Live Team blog, you’ll soon see some new features arrive in your Hotmail inbox. After choosing one of the available options, you can access a search box in Hotmail’s sidebar to find the information you need – like the name and phone number of a restaurant you’re mentioning in your email message, for example. An “insert” button beneath the listing in the sidebar lets you paste the info directly into your message.

Now Hotmail’s “Quick Add” feature has been upgraded to include more options courtesy of the new Bing search engine. In addition to restaurants, business listings, photos, and videos, you can now also search for maps as well as movie listings and times. And all the Quick Add options have been updated to work with the new Bing API.

This is a really handy feature for Hotmail users and something entirely unique to the service. Sometimes, this can be accomplished by forwarding the old account (if that’s an option of your webmail service), other times it can be done by import. Now (at last!), Windows Live Hotmail has added a feature that lets you import other email account into your Hotmail.

For users in the US, Canada, and Brazil, you can now import any POP-enabled email account – a list which happens to include Yahoo! Mail Plus, AOL Mail, and Gmail. (The feature was already available in the UK, France, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Japan, and Germany).

To access this option, click on “Add an e-mail account” on the left side of you inbox. Type in the email address and password for the account you want to forward then click “Next.” Choose where you want the messages to go (for example, a separate folder instead of your inbox) and click “Save.”

In order for this to work, POP has to be turned on in the POP-enabled email service you’re adding. This is usually found in your webmail settings.

<evnet:views>17938</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://on10.net/28292/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>
One of the most critical features needed to get people to switch over from one email account to another is the ability to still easily access email from their old accounts. IM Comes to Hotmail

The Windows Live Hotmail team just announced some exciting news: Windows Live Hotmail is finally integrating IM functionality within its interface. With this new feature, you can IM your Windows Live Messenger friends from within your inbox or from the People (Contacts) page without having to launch the desktop software client.

The feature arrived yesterday in Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and the U.S., to join the countries that received web messenger last month (France, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, and the UK).

To access the new web IM, look for a drop-down menu up at the top of your Hotmail inbox that says “Messenger.” Even if you’re already signed into your desktop client, you can sign in again here, manage your status, view your contacts, etc.

And to start a conversation, just click on the presence indicator next to the sender’s name in your email. Alternately, you can click on the user’s display picture in Windows Live People where you’ll also have the option to start an IM conversation.

<evnet:views>17020</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://on10.net/25659/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>
The Windows Live Hotmail team just announced some exciting news: Windows Live Hotmail is finally integrating IM functionality within its interface.

</evnet:previewtext>

<trackback:ping>http://on10.net/25659/Trackback.aspx</trackback:ping>

Hotmail adds POP3

If you live in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Spain, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands then you have a new way to get your Hotmail on your mobile phone: via POP3. The POP3 protocol is a standard email protocol that lets you retrieve email messages from a server and deliver them to your designated program. With this functionality in place, you can easily add Hotmail to your Windows Mobile phone, iPhone, or BlackBerry.

Here’s the technical information you need to know:

POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example yourname@hotmail.com
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes

If you don’t live in one of the regions specified, the Hotmail team says not too worry – they will be rolling out POP3 to other parts of the world later this year.

Of course, you can still access your mail on your mobile from mobile.live.com or by using Windows Live on your Windows Mobile phone. And on your desktop, you can check Hotmail using Windows Live Mail (which uses IMAP as the default) or Microsoft Office Outlook via the Outlook Connector.

<evnet:views>14848</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://on10.net/24841/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>If you live in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Spain, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands then you have a new way to get your Hotmail on your mobile phone: via POP3. Specifically, users with small monitors – like those on netbooks, for example - were having difficulties navigating through Hotmail. The Hotmail team reviewed the feedback and then tested the new version on many different monitor sizes and resolutions. The results of those tests? They decided to change it back. Now the new Windows Live Hotmail will scroll like Classic Hotmail, if you so desire. To turn this setting on, you’ll need to first turn off the reading pane. To do so: Click the Inbox folder. Click Options (upper-right, below the sign-out link). Under Reading pane settings, click Off. Scrolling wasn’t the only change the team made based on user feedback. Other fixes included the following: When you’re done choosing contacts to send your message to, click anywhere outside the contact picker window to close it and go back to typing your message. The issue where some users couldn’t select the last contact in the list has been fixed. Holding down the Shift key and clicking a message in the inbox now opens that message in a new window, as it did in the past. The links in the header at the top have been changed to match the rest of Windows Live and point to more Windows Live services. As always, the software and services delivered are constantly being shaped and improved by user feedback. If there’s something you would like to see, speak up! The best way to do so is through Windows Live Feedback. (Click the (?) icon in Hotmail (top-right), and then click Feedback). If you just need help with Hotmail, check the new Windows Live Solution Center instead.

<evnet:views>13006</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://on10.net/24401/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>After the new version of Windows Live Hotmail was launched, some users were unhappy with some of the changes. If so, all you have to do is use the auto-configuration feature when you set up your mail for the first time. That’s right – in Windows Live Mail, the desktop mail app that’s part of the Windows Live Essentials, IMAP is used by default instead of POP3. In case you don’t know what the difference is or why that’s cool, read on. With POP (Post Office Protocol), your email downloads from the mail server to your computer. However, IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) keeps everything, including your sent mail, on the server. That means when you’re at your main computer, you could use Windows Live Mail to enjoy the richness and familiarity of a desktop application, but when you were away from your computer, you could log into the web interface for your email without missing any of your messages…like your sent email, for example. In the past, your sent items would have gone missing unless you configured your POP settings to “leave messages on the server,” as most email programs will allow you to do. That’s a great setting for those of you whose ISP or email provider doesn’t offer IMAP, but for everyone else, having to configure settings like that is a real pain. So it’s great that IMAP is now the default – it’s definitely the better option. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, Windows Live Hotmail supports IMAP, of course!

<evnet:views>24334</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://on10.net/24395/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Do you want to configure Windows Live Mail to use IMAP? With this free add-in, you can integrate your Windows Live Hotmail and Windows Live Calendar directly within Outlook. In this new release, the connector has been improved so that syncing your contacts and email is "faster and more robust," says Alessio Roic, Outlook Program Manager, on their team blog.

If you use the new Windows Live Calendar service, you’ll be happy to know that the Connector will also sync your calendars to Outlook – even if you have more than one. And if you are a member of any shared Windows Live Calendars, those can be synced, too.

However, please note that the new Connector (12.1) replaces the old Connector (12.0) which synchronized with the MSN Calendaring service (a MSN Premium service). If you choose to replace that earlier version of the connector, Outlook will no longer synchronize with MSN Calendar and all the data will need to be moved over to the free Windows Live Calendar instead. (I love it when paid services are replaced with free ones – how about you?)

For anyone who wants to move off the premium service to the new free service, you will first need to migrate your data. The Outlook blog details exactly what needs to be done.

Then, when you’re ready, you can install the Outlook Connector 12.1 from here.

<evnet:views>13116</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://on10.net/24354/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>
After two betas, the Microsoft Office Outlook Connector 12.1 has now been made available in its final format. The feature is called “Quick Add” and it allows you to easily insert web content in your email message from a bar that appears on the right side of your screen.

In the Quick Add bar, you’ll see the options: Maps, Restaurants, Movie times, Images, Videos, and Business listings. If you’re composing a message where you needed to include one of these types of things – say, for example, directions to a party, the restaurant you’re suggesting for dinner, the photo of the gadget you’ve been lusting after, etc. – you can easily add them directly into your message with ease.

After clicking your choice from the list, you’re presented with a search box which allows you to query the Live.com engine. The results appear right in the sidebar and underneath each one is an option to add the item to your email. Simply click on the word “Insert” and the map, restaurant, photo, etc. will automatically be added to your email.

First I inserted the restaurant info…

Then I inserted the map!

In the past, email and contacts syncing was available for free, but syncing your calendar was only available with a subscription service. No more! Calendar sync is free! Not only that, but the calendar syncing service now also syncs with the Windows Live Calendar Beta service, too! That means you can sync your work calendar in Outlook to your personal calendar in Hotmail to your family calendar in Windows Live Calendar and vice versa. And since Windows Live Calendar supports calendar sharing, other shared calendars that you have access to will also sync back to Outlook. The new Outlook connector is faster, more reliable, and, as always, free.

- acessar emails e contatos direto do Portal
